Biography

Born and raised in New York’s Brooklyn district, Bert Stern initially worked for various magazines. He began taking photographs and was successful as an advertising photographer and later as a portrait photographer. He achieved worldwide fame through his portraits of the actress Marilyn Monroe, which he took shortly before her death in 1962 during a three-day photo session for the magazine Vogue, known as “Last Sitting”. Bert Stern died in Manhattan in 2013.
